Eric Healey struck out 12 batters, representing 80 per cent of the outs registered by his team as the Conception Bay Central Junior Canadians downed Sable Building & Design 10-3 Sunday at Lions Park in a Molson St. John’s intermediate softball game shortened to five innings by the league’s mercy rule.

It was a similar story to Friday, when Healey stuck out 16 in a complete-game performance as the Junior Canadians edged the Chayee Bourras NL Selects 6-5.

Healey, who allowed four

hits and a walk from the mound, was one of four C.B.C. players with two hits at the plate on Sunday, joining Daniel Byrne, Liam Costello and Coady Furey.

Byrne and Costello both had two RBIS, with Byrne, Furey and Brad Lewis each scoring twice.

Losing pitcher Jordan Hamilton had two hits, including a triple, for Goulds-based Sable.

In Sunday’s other game at Lions Park, defending champion Lafontaine Club downed the NL Selects 5-2.

Sheldon Keefe, Blair Pittman and Jarrod Bohlke each had two hits for the winners, with Keefe scoring two runs.

Liam Shea had two hits, including a solo home run for the Selects.

Johnny O’reilly, the starting pitcher for Placentia-based Lafontaine got the win, getting the decision over Lucas Reid, who went the distance. O’reilly was relieved by Nick Pittman, who pitched two innings for the save.

On Friday, Sable had thumped the RMM Republic 19-8 in six innings, with Jason Gulliver going four-for-four and driving in five runs for the winners and teammate Ryan Maher scoring four times and adding three RBIS.
