A headline on page A1 of Friday’s Telegram, “Man sentenced to volunteer at church he broke into,” was inaccurate. While Robert Newell was sentenced to community service and had requested to serve it at St. Pius X Church, there was no order for him to serve it at the church specifically. As reported in the story, Justice Vikas Khaladkar put a condition on an order that Newell stay away from the church, to allow him to volunteer there only if it was arranged by a probation officer. A photo caption published in Friday’s print edition on page A3 with the story “Veteran had almost 18,000 child porn images,” incorrectly identified Douglas Noseworthy.
In a story published in Friday’s print edition on page B1, “N.L. Supreme Court judge rules Sequence Bio case against regulator can proceed,” it was reported that the HREB clinical trial subcommittee denied approval of a Sequence Bio project proposal 203 days after it was submitted. The timeline was incorrect. In fact, the HREB subcommittee refused to approve the company’s NL Genome Project the day after Sequence Bio filed a mandamus application seeking the courts to compel the board to render a decision. In response, the biotechnology company later amended its application to instead seek a declaration concerning the statutory interpretation of the board’s legislated responsibility to review and decide on an application within 30 days.
The Telegram regrets the errors.
