The Telegram (St. John's)

All about Dad

- BY ANDREW WATERMAN SPECIAL TO THE TELEGRAM

It may have been raining, but there was no shortage of dry jokes outside the hardware stores this Friday, as fathers and their families prepared for the weekend. With Father’s Day on Sunday, The Telegram took to the streets to see what dads will be doing for the day and what it means to them. “I plan to spend Father’s Day with my family. … Being with the family on Father’s Day means a great deal to me.”

“We’re going to have a barbecue and a few friends over. This is my first year for Father’s Day. (Faith) is only six months old, so it’s a whole brand-new experience for me.”

“A nice big breakfast, hopefully, of eggs benedict, which I love. … (Father’s Day) is a time to reconnect with the family, put all the devices away, hang around with each other and enjoy the day.”

-Daryl Matkar, Outer Cover

“We’re planning on going to supper, maybe spend the evening with the family. I try to show (my son) what my father showed me, show him good morals.”

-Marcel Ledrew, St. John’s

“(I’ll) spend some time with the kids (and) go with my wife’s parents for the weekend. (Father’s Day is about) being around family and friends.”

“My father just passed away a couple months ago. … It’s my first one without (him). It’s going to be a bit of a different one for me.”
