Tely Junior Golf Tour enters 13th season
The Tely Junior Golf Tour kicks off the 2018 season with the Pippy Park Junior Invitational next Tuesday on the Admiral’s Green Course at Pippy Park.
This will be the 13th year of operation for the Tely Tour and the second year Golf Newfoundland Labrador (Golf NL) assumes full responsibility for the overall operation and management of the Tour.
Since its inception in 2006, The Tely Tour, sponsored by The Telegram and Golf NL, has been a volunteer, non-profit initiative in support of junior golf. It was created to provide an introductory competitive pathway and rules education opportunity for young golfers from across the province who wish to transition from recreational to competitive golf.
This year’s schedule involves 12 events across the island during June, July and August. The full schedule of competitions, tournament fees and deadlines are posted on the Tely Tour website (www.telytour.ca).
The Tour will include a total of five divisions, three boys (bantam 10-12, juvenile 13-15 and junior 16-18) and two girls (bantam 10-13 and junior 1418). The season finale will be the Tour Championship at the Twin Rivers Course at Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community on Aug. 27. As part of the Tour Championship, the annual Future Links Skills Challenge driven by Acura will be held Aug. 26.
Golf NL is pleased to have the continued support of The Telegram as it looks to develop and enhance its partnership with the major supporter of the Tour. Golf NL would also like to thank the past executive of the Tour, including Miller Ayre (commissioner), Kay Thompson (rules chair) and Bruce Watson (executive director and webmaster) for their contributions towards the creation, development and success of the Tour the past 12 years and looks forward to their continued involvement.
