At least one of the many microbreweries planned for the province over the last two years won’t be moving ahead.

Over the weekend, the Motion Bay Brewing Company — formally registered with the province’s Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment as Killick Stone Brewing Company — posted on its Facebook page that it was unable to proceed with the brewery project in Petty Harbour as a result of circumstances beyond its control.

The company had been hoping to be serving pints and filling growlers by this coming December.

“We have been honoured to be a part of the flourishing craft beer scene in Newfoundland and we wish everyone in the industry all the best,” the post reads. “A huge thank you to everyone who has shown us support over the last year and a half.”

The proponents declined the opportunity to comment on the matter when contacted by The Telegram.

The owners — listed in registration documents as Patricia Dellapinna, Shannon Best, Chris Mackey and Jana Muise — planned on establishing a microbrewery operation and tasting area in a leased portion of the Fisherman’s Co-op Building at 35 Southside Rd in the bedroom community just outside of St. John’s.

The plan called for six brew days per month, creating a total of 10 barrels per batch.

The project was released from any environmental assessment review from the province last July, however it was still subject to other legislative requirements from other government agencies.

Other microbrewery projects in the metro region still underway include Mount Pearl-based Landwash Brewery Inc., the Ninepenny Brewing Company in Conception Bay South, and the Firehall Brew Pub in the old east end fire station on Duckworth Street in St. John’s. Elsewhere in the province, the following projects are still under development or close to opening: Baccalieu Trail Brewing Company Ltd. (Bay Roberts), Secret Cove Microbrewery (Port au Port East), Crooked Feeder Brewing Company (Cormack), Boomstick Brewing Company (Corner Brook), Rough Waters Brewing Company Ltd. (Burin), Dildo Brewing Company & Museum, Pasadena Craft Beer Nano Brewery, Ragnaröck Northern Brewing Company (St. Anthony), Brigus Brewing Company, and Pig & Pepper Brewing Company (location unknown).
