New four-year agreements have been settled for over 200 city workers in Mount Pearl, with council expected to vote in favour of the deal July 24.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2099 and 2099-1 voted Tuesday to accept what was a tentative agreement, according to a statement issued by the City of Mount Pearl. The tentative agreement was reached June 28.

The deal includes a four per cent wage increase, spread over four years. It also includes the introduction of a new job evaluation program, to be linked to employee compensation, in what the city has dubbed the first of its kind for municipalities in the province.

“This agreement demonstrates the ability of our bargaining teams to balance the priorities of our residents, businesses and employees,” Mayor Dave Aker said in the city’s statement.

“We have landed on a collective agreement that is not only fair to our employees, but to our taxpayers.”

The new agreement will be effective as of July 1 of this year.
