Can the clothes make the hockey team?

Well, it’s the bodies inside the jerseys that will determine whatever success the Newfoundland Growlers will experience during their inaugural ECHL season, but the new club figures its players will look sharp whatever the outcomes.

The expansion Growlers unveiled their jerseys Tuesday morning at Harbourside Park in downtown St. John’s, with team CEO Dean Macdonald and recently-signed defenceman James Melindy of the Goulds serving as models for the uniforms, which feature the Newfoundland Dog-themed logo revealed some weeks ago.

But the colour and design schemes for the uniforms — with black, white and cream as the colours — took a little longer to finalize.

As well, we were given the first look at the commemorative inaugural season patches which will be on the shoulders on the sweaters.

The team’s black jerseys will be worn at home during the first half of the 2018-19 season, which begins Oct. 12 against the Florida Everblades at Mile One Centre. However, the new duds will see their first game action during three pre-season games — in Stephenville, Deer Lake and Clarenville — against the Brampton Beast

The Growlers white-based uniforms will be the road apparel for the first few months of the season. All ECHL teams will switch over midway through the campaign, wearing dark jerseys on the road and the lighter ones at home.

Jerseys are available for preorder at shop.nlgrowlers.com.
