11th annual Burin Peninsula Open report

Ray Walsh fired a low round of 75 Saturday to win the 2018 Burin Peninsula Open Golf Tournament, taking the men’s competitiv­e division 1 title by one stroke over defending champion Stewart Hartson. Tony Mitchell finished three strokes back with a round of 79. Bob Hoyles fired a round of 80 to take the men’s competitiv­e division 2 title by two strokes over Glen Forsey and Gary Smith.

Forsey captured the low net with a score of 68.

Judy Drake captured the ladies’ division with a score of 90 ,followed by Jeannette Lundrigan with a score of 100. Dorothy Warren followed up in third with a score of 109, just one stroke ahead of Marilyn Mccarthy and Dot Baker. Mccarthy captured the low net with a score of 66 while Warren finished second with a 70 followed by Blagdon with a 78.

Brad Russell captured the men’s senior division 1 title with a score of 85, finishing a stroke ahead of Kevin Carvery. Al Lewis and Frank Hodder finished tied for third with scores of 88. Carvery won the low net with a 62, followed by Hodder with a 69 and John Bugden at 70.

Bill Buffett carded a score of 95 to win the men’s senior division 2 by five strokes over Frank Hanrahan and Sam Synard, who both carded scores of 100. Howse won the low net with a score of 74, while Synard finished second with 75, followed by Brenton at 76.

In the recreation division, five golfers competed with Dave Bungay and Alex Loveless carding scores of 96, followed by Randell Evans (100), Ivan Paul (101) and Wayne Dodge (103).
