A walking tour featuring multiple performances at standing stops in and around Bannerman Park. Professional actors perform as various women from 1922 St. John’s. The performance begins and ends at the corner of Rennies Mill and Circular Road on the park side. The performance departs at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday to Friday until Aug. 10, rain or shine. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, collected at the beginning of the tour, cash only, no reservations. HST included. The performance runs one hour. The 21st annual Youth Ventures Awards celebrates the success of young entrepreneurs in the province. The presentation will take place from 3-5 p.m. in the reception hall of the Manuels River Interpretation Centre in Conception Bay South. Environment 9 p.m. Puffin Patrol
Each year, members of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Newfoundland and Labrador (CPAWS NL), in partnership with the Canadian Wildlife Services (CWS) and residents of the Southern Shore, actively patrol the area for stranded juvenile puffins. Last year over 700 young puffins, or pufflings, were rescued. Starting from mid-august until September, young pufflings will leave their burrows for the first time at night, following the light of the moon to direct them out to sea. Unfortunately, some chicks are attracted by artificial lights along the coast and end up stranded on land, where they are vulnerable to cars and other hazards. CPAWS organizes and co-ordinates volunteer patrols of the area to help rescue the stranded birds, where they are then stored overnight at our headquarters, at O’briens Bird Island Charters in Bay Bulls. volunteers are welcome to visit the headquarters between 9 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. every night to receive their kits and training and begin patrolling. To reduce the number of stranded chicks, we encourage residents of the area to dim all unnecessary lighting in their homes, turn off outside lighting when applicable and use coloured lights or shades outside the home. ‘Fleming’ – A Walking Tour
The award-winning “Fleming” — a walking tour — runs until Aug. 23 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. This one-ofa-kind tour received a Manning Award from the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for exceptional public presentation of Newfoundland history. Paul Rowe, in the character of Bishop Michael Anthony Fleming, takes his audience on a tour like no other. “Fleming” tells the story of the Basilica — with little known facts about the construction, and the social issues of the times — in a fresh and engaging manner. The one-hour walking tour starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the door at the Basilica. Cash only; $12 for general tickets and $10 for seniors and students.

A fun and interactive, hands-on workshop for kids ages five to 12. Help construct a traditional Newfoundland dory and make your own model boat.
