Classes Ongoing Acting classes
The Performing Arts Group has opened registrations for fall film/ theatre/audition technique acting classes with actor, songwriter and musician Sean Panting. Panting has worked extensively as a stage, film and voice actor. Beginner and intermediate adult classes are Wednesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., experienced adult classes are Mondays from 8 to 10 p.m. and intermediate and experienced youth (ages 16-19) classes are Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Space is limited. ‘Fleming’ – A Walking Tour
The award-winning “Fleming” — a walking tour —runs until Aug. 23 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. This one-ofa-kind tour received a Manning Award from the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for exceptional public presentation of Newfoundland history. Paul Rowe, in the character of Bishop Michael Anthony Fleming, takes his audience on a tour like no other. “Fleming” tells the story of the Basilica — with little known facts about the construction, and the social issues of the times — in a fresh and engaging manner. The one-hour walking tour starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the door at the Basilica. Cash only; $12 for general tickets and $10 for seniors and students.

The Rooms Tour: A History of Fort Townshend
The site that The Rooms stands on has been occupied since 1778 when the British built Fort Townshend to secure St. John’s harbour against their enemies. Learn about the military history of this site and find out how The Rooms came to be built here. This tour takes 20 minutes and is weather permitting every Friday.

Workshop 7 p.m. Mindfulness for overeaters
Do you feel food has the upper hand with you? Have you tried diets, restrictions, exercise but nothing has worked so far? You may be using food to distance yourself from mental, emotional or physical pain. Mindfulness can help you reestablish a good relationship with yourself so that you can stop using food for whatever it’s not meant to be used for. The workshop includes mindfulness instruction and intensive practice, self-exploration, individual and group guidance on issues related to food and overeating. Facilitated by Claudio Corbelli (mindfulness counsellor) and Andrew Safer (mindfulness instructor) at 120 Lemarchant Rd. Introduction on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and workshop to follow on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
