They’re based in St. John’s, but the Newfoundland Growlers won’t play their first game in the capital city.

Rather, the expansion ECHL team will open things on the road with a trio of exhibition games against the Brampton Beast across the province.

Training camp will run Sept. 30-Oct. 9 in St. John’s, but the Growlers will play three exhibition game away from Mile One Centre, starting Oct. 4 at the Stephenville Dome in Stephenville, Oct. 5 at the Hodder Memorial Centre in Deer Lake and winding up with a game in Clarenville at the Eastlink Events Centre Oct. 7.

The Growlers are the ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Beast have an affiliation with the Montreal Canadiens.

“We’re proud to continue our commitment to make the Growlers this province’s team,” said Growlers CEO Dean Macdonald. “It’s important to our organization that we reach all the hockey fans across the province.”

Tickets for each of the three games are available at the etixnow self-serve kiosks at any Orangestore island-wide, including the North Atlantic Petroleum stations in Deer Lake and Stephenville.

Tickets can also be purchased by visiting Debbie’s Video Shoppe in Stephenville, Deer Lake Town Office and the Eastlink Events Centre in Clarenville.

Tickets are $20 each, $18 for standing room only.
