Chefs to serve up dishes to raise money for Nevaeh Denine’s family

-

A St. John’s restaurant and several top-notch local chefs will band together today for an event to pay tribute to Nevaeh Denine and help raise money for her family.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wedgwood Café and Catering at 17 Elizabeth Avenue will host a pop-up café, in which chef Peter Wedgewood and his culinary friends will serve up some of tasty dishes for guests, who can drop for dinner or partake in a barbeque in the parking lot. Besides Wedgwood, other chefs taking part include Kyle Mckenna (Hitchen the Kitchen); Brian Piercey (Celtic Hearth); Nick Jewczyk (Leaside Group and Reigning Gold Medal Plates Champion); Jonathon Richler (Jewish Deli); Daren Hayward (Newfoundland Seasoning); Adam Blanchard (Five Brothers Cheese); Stephen Quinton (Q’s BBQ); and Stephen Norman (Quesada Taco & Burrito). Tickets are available for giveaways and there will be drink specials. Tunes will be provided by DJ Slim Macho.

Funds raised will go directly to support the Denine family. Nevaeh, a nine-year-old from St. John’s who died Aug. 6, raised more than $200,000 to help other kids with pediatric cancer through her lemonade stands and other events. “Nevaeh knew that one person can make a difference in this world when she started a lemonade stand to raise money to help other kids with pediatric cancer …,” a news release announcing Tuesday’s event reads. “Over the past few years, Nevaeh showed us all what compassion, courage, strength, character and dignity truly represent. She helped those that were in need and she asked for nothing in return, a true real life hero.”
