Terra Nova Resort hosts Junior Future Links Skills Challenge driven by Acura

Golf Newfoundla­nd Labrador (Golf NL), in partnershi­p with The Telegram and Future Links Driven by Acura, held its annual Future Links Skills Challenge Sunday at Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community, as part of the Tely Tour Championsh­ip weekend. The Future Links skills challenge is broken into age categories and gender and encompass three (3) basic golf skills including: putting, chipping, and driving, with points awarded for the successful achievemen­t of each skill. At the conclusion of the competitio­n, the individual with the highest combined score wins that specific division.

This year there were three boys and three girls divisions comprising under 11 division, 12 to

14 years and 15 to 18 years in both genders. In the 15 to 18 boys division, Nathan Young of Clovelly tallied the most points of the day with 255 to capture the gold medal, with Ethan Efford claiming the silver medal with a total of 200 points and Nathan Nanayakkar­a taking the bronze medal with a total score of 190 points. In the 15 to 18 girls division, Taylor Cormier took the gold medal with 140 points.

In the 12 to 14 boys division, the gold medal was won by Evan Snow of Gander Golf Club with 215 points, with Caleb Reid of Grand Falls Golf Club taking the silver medal with 170 points. Jack Pelley-machardy of Grand Falls Golf Club and Noah Belliveau of Harmon Seaside Links tied for third place with 165 points and received a bronze medal.

Katie Colbourne of Blomidon Golf Club won the gold medal in the girls 12 to 14 division with a score of 145, while Paige Allen, also of Blomidon Golf Club, captured the silver medal with 120 points followed by Abigail Snow of Gander Golf Club with 100 points and winning the bronze medal.

In the 11 and under boys division, Nicholas Reid of Terra Nova Resort won the gold medal with a total of 160 points, the silver was won by Lucan Meade of Clovelly with 140 points with Ben Preston of Pitcher’s Pond Golf Course receiving the bronze medal with a score of 110. Clovelly’s Sanjana Gullipalli recored 140 points to win the gold medal in the girls 11 and under division.

In the 9-11 girls division, Katie Colbournbe recorded a total of 200 to take the gold while Rosie Allen was awarded the silver with a total of 180 followed by her sister Paige winning the bronze with a score of 120. Kali Gill of Blomidon Golf Club received the bronze medal with a total point count of 100.
