Don’t put away those clubs just yet

-

Labour Day may be considered the end of the summer vacation season, but it definitely is not the end of the golf season.

The weather this summer has been incredible and the longterm forecasts predict a long and exceptionally warm fall is before us. If that holds true, anyone putting away their golf clubs already is missing out on some of the best golf of the season.

“September, October, and sometimes, the start of November are often the nicest golfing days of the year” says Trevor Stuber, one of the four family members who built The View Golf Resort in Princeton on the Bonavista Peninsula.

“The crowds have died down, there are no bugs, and the temperatures are moderate, so it’s easy to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing game.”

The fall is also the time when golf courses are often in their best condition, having had a summer’s worth of manicuring and maintenance

“Keeping the course in pristine condition through July and August is a constant challenge due to high traffic and scorching heat,” admits Barry Stuber. “While some courses struggled with the dry conditions this year, The View Golf Resort has an elaborate irrigation system which keeps our greens and fairways in great shape all summer long.”

With the turf in excellent shape and the beautiful changing colours soon coming, it’s not hard to understand why many golfers consider the fall to be the best time to play a round.

The fall is also a great time to combine golf with other tourist activities. Now that many of the visiting tourists have departed, this is a great time for residents to enjoy the attractions and activities that brought them here. At The View Golf Resort, there are a lot of guests who play a quick round and then go out hiking, fishing, whale-watching, or visiting/taking in some of the historical and cultural sites and events the Bonavista Peninsula is famous for like the Roots, Rants, and Roars festival, and the Rising Tide Theatre.

So, regardless of what part of the province you are in, keep your clubs handy because this is the perfect time to become a “golf tourist” right in your own backyard.
