Petty Harbour Long Pond water supply users asked to report discoloured water

-

ST. JOHN’S — Residents living in the Petty Harbour Long Pond Water Supply areaof St. John’s are asked to notify the city if they are experiencing discoloured water. The city, in a news release, said it appears manganese levels in the raw, source water from the pond as well as the treated water flowing through the distribution system are decreasing.

However, this does not mean the issue has been resolved, the city said.

According to the city, the clear water is safe to drink; children under one year of age should have infant formula, infant food or drinking water prepared with bottled water or an alternative water source.

The city said it continues to perform daily testing at both the water treatment facility and throughout the distribution system. Although people may not have reported discoloured water to the city because it’s aware of the problem, the city said it would be helpful to know if people are still experiencing issues, and where those issues are occurring. Report problems via the city’s free 311 St. John’s app, downloadable via the Apple app store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store or Blackberry World.

People can also report issues online at https://www.stjohns.ca/ access-stjohns/submit-access-request, by email to accessstjohns@ stjohns.ca or by phoning 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489).
