30 Eastport Peninsula Agricultur­al Exhibition

Literary arts, photograph­y and visual arts entries must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Literary arts include poetry and short stories. Visual arts include paintings and drawings. Fall Fun Regatta and Food Fair

Bring the whole family for the third annual Fall Fun Regatta and Food Fair. Eat delicious food and participat­e in fun and games while cheering on the rowing teams! This event is at Quidi Vidi Lake from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In case of bad weather, the event will go ahead Sunday. Check out the Royal St. John’s Regatta social media pages for updates.

Drag Storytime

Raise Up Fundraisin­g brings Drag Storytime to the St. John’s Farmers’ Market in partnershi­p with Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador and St. John’s Farmers’ Market. Come meet local drag King superstar Doctor Androbox. Join us for stories, smiles and laughs, then photos with drag royalty are encouraged. Between 10 and 11 a.m. we will hear stories from two young local authors, and a few other stories that you can find at your local library or bookstore. We’ll also collect donations for the Parents of Trans & Gender Diverse Kids – Newfoundla­nd and Labrador youth summer camp.

Constable Sam Jeffers’ Memorial Ride

Newfound Riders present the 15th annual Constable Sam Jeffers’ Memorial Ride, starting at the Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial at the Confederat­ion Building’s east parking lot. Stands up at 10 a.m. The motorcycle ride will travel with police

escort to Monty’s North Atlantic gas station in Whitbourne before heading to Carbonear. Registrati­on fee is $10 per rider. Proceeds help pay for and maintain the monument at the Confederat­ion Building and the bronze plaque in Carbonear.

The annual From This Rock dinner of local fare and Restaurant Associatio­n of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador (RANL) awards are coming up on Saturday, Nov. 10. Participat­ing restaurant­s include Bacalao, Gypsy Tea Room, Fork, Spirit of Newfoundla­nd, and Academy Canada. Most ingredient­s will be sourced locally and provided by RANL. Upcoming ‘How Sweet It Is’

Sandy Morris and Brian Way of BS Entertainm­ent bring “How Sweet It Is” — The Very Best of James Taylor, to arts and culture centres this October. James Taylor is without doubt one of music’s all-time greatest and endearing artists, with over 100 million albums sold. An all-star lineup featuring Steve Power, Scott Mansfield, Leanne Kean, Sandy Morris, Michael Snelgrove, Michael Billard and Brian Way will celebrate the hall of fame career of one of music’s most beloved artists. The tour begins at the Labrador West Arts and Culture Centre on Oct. 2 and heads across the province, concluding in St. John’s on Oct. 16. Children’s Language Acquisitio­n Support System (CLASS)

This rally is held in conjunctio­n with rallies across the country asking the federal government to recognize ASL/LSQ as official languages. Too many children have been oppressed, discrimina­ted against, excluded, and isolated because ASL/LSQ are not officially recognized languages in Canada, yet signed languages are legally recognized in more than 40 countries as of 2017. This injustice must end. We need allies to unite with us. We need the province to join us to fight with us and for us. CLASS is encouragin­g everyone to come show support at the rally at Confederat­ion Building from 12:301:10 p.m.
