9:30 a.m. Exercise Classes The St. John’s Retired Citizens’ Associatio­n offers exercise classes for retired folks at 10 Bennett Ave. every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Circus

8 p.m. Masterwork­s 1: Under the Big Top Newfoundla­nd Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and the National Circus School (Montreal) bring the world of circus to the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre, presented as part of the St. John’s Internatio­nal Circusfest. Hosted by Wonderbolt Production­s. For more informatio­n, visit www.stjohnscir­cusfest.com. Masterwork­s 1 also includes the debut of two new works. To start off the evening the NSO is joined by Shallaway Youth Choir and Kelly Russell as they perform Staniland’s “Sounds from the Edge.” Master trumpeter Jens Lindemann, has returned to St. John’s to join the NSO to debut Estacio’s “Trumpet Concerto.” Show up early for “Listen Up,” a pre-show talk at 7:05 p.m. that will give a behind-the-scenes overview of Masterwork­s 1.

Dance 8 p.m. The Flamenco Project

Raíces y Alas are known for their provocativ­e approach to the ageold art of flamenco. This show will feature beautiful music, dresses, and of course world-class flamenco dancing. Raices y Alas are one of the country’s most innovative companies, who have been deeply trained in the traditiona­l style of flamenco. Performing at the LSPU Hall. Symposium 7:30 p.m. Muskrat MUN

The public is welcome to attend a discussion of the problems associated with the Muskrat Falls hydroelect­ric dam, which are changing the social, cultural and environmen­tal life in the province. At this symposium, questions that you won’t hear at the public inquiry will be addressed, such as: how can a $13-billion investment in energy security result in energy being more expensive, and less accessible? A wide range of speakers from here and abroad will share what they know and join in a discussion about the controvers­ial aspects of the project. The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. and all day Saturday at Memorial University’s Engineerin­g Building, Room 2006. Free parking is available in Lot 27. 7:30 Life Sucks In this mid-life comedy by awardwinni­ng playwright Aaron Posner, a group of old friends, ex-lovers, estranged in-laws and lifelong enemies gather to grapple with life’s thorniest questions — and each other. What could possibly go wrong? “Life Sucks” plays Sept. 26-30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Barbara Barrett Theatre.
