Sobeys Inc. says it plans to renovate and convert its Sobeys Placentia location to its Foodland banner.

Renovations are expected to begin Oct. 9. The conversion to Foodland will be complete in early 2019. In a news release, Sobeys Inc. said it is investing $2 million to renovate and refresh the Placentia store, adding some new features and services. Some of the new elements include a new, full-service deli with an expanded selection of hot and cold grab-and-go meal items and a new seating area; expanded produce, meat, bakery, dairy and frozen food departments; enhanced well-being and natural source departments with hundreds of organic, gluten-free, allnatural and vegan products; and new paint and lighting.

“Our Foodland banner has a long, well-established history in Atlantic Canada and has been regarded as a service-oriented food retailer with strong ties to the community,” Paul Macleod, vice-president division head for Atlantic operations, said in a news release.

“We’ve looked closely at the grocery needs of our customers in the community and Foodland is the right banner for this market. As a community-focused banner, it will be easier for us to source local products to help support the local community and promote local business.”

The store will remain open during the renovations.
