Red Shoe Crew walks for Ronald Mcdonald House

Ronald Mcdonald House Charities Newfoundla­nd and Labrador (RMHC-NL) held its Final Step Event for the 7th annual Red Shoe Crew – Walk for Families around Quidi Vidi Lake on Friday morning at Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Hydro Place. The sponsor representa­tives were recognized with appreciati­on awards along with the final tally of $263,000 raised across the province, announced along with the main prize draws. The grand prize of a PAL Airline trip for two was won by Mela Hollett of Chance Cove. Tracey Scott was the winner of the West Jet trip for two, and Lisa Martin of Lewisporte won the Top Fundraiser prize of a $500 Irving gift card for raising $3,111. Pictured above sporting their Red Shoe Crew Walk attire are Mary Smith and Shirley Kinder, (right), of the Norman’s Cove crew, with four-year-old Natalia Williams of Labrador City with the appreciati­on award presented to Newfoundla­nd Hydro as the presenting sponsor of the Red Shoe Crew Walk, and Belle from the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast.” Belle, portrayd by Emmalee, was at the walk and was befriended by Natalie, who signed the thank you cards for the sponsors, as seen in the framed appreciati­on award. Natalie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblas­tic leukemia in June and is a resident at Ronald Mcdonald House in St. John’s while undergoing her treatment at the Janeway Children’s Hospital. Also staying with her there is her mom, Ronda, while her older sister, Haidyn, 13, is back home in Labrador staying with relatives while attending junior high school. In August, Ronda was able to avail of a trip home to the Big Land courtesy of PAL to be with Haidyn to prepare her for school.
