Tired of being bullied or having your child bullied? You’re not alone. The Mount Pearl School of Martial Arts has a well-structured program to arm you/your child with techniques to recognize, defuse and defend against bullying. Aikido is an effective martial art with an ethical approach: use the aggressor’s energy against them without harming them. Get fit and focused while having fun. The Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Associatio­n of Architects presents Architectu­re Lecture Series 2018. This lecture by award-winning landscape architect Chris Grosset of Nvision Insight Group, an Indigenous consulting firm based in Ottawa and Iqaluit, will be held at Quidi Vidi Plantation and hosted by the Atlantic Provinces Associatio­n

Workshop 6:30 p.m. Anne Glover’s String Stories

A workshop for educators, parents and the young at heart. Cost is $25 cash at the door. Pre-register by emailing storytelli­ngstjohns@ gmail.com. Held at the Cochrane Centre, a wheelchair-accessible venue. In this hands-on workshop, participan­ts will learn string stories they can use in programs for children and youth. Anne travels the globe teaching string stories to even those who are “all thumbs.” String stories can be used in story time, puppet shows, after-school programmin­g and as a visual/kinestheti­c link to literacy. All you need to bring is yourself and a sense of humour. No strings attached and no dexterity required. Hands-on, action-packed, fun and funny. Your shoelaces will never look the same. Spectacula­r string stories for kids at the A.C. Hunter Public Library. Anne Glover brings her stories to life with wild and wonderful string games. A horse with a person on its back riding all the way through the universe and bumping into a dinosaur with a griffin on its back, driving a car? You bet!
