The Lantern, 35 Barnes Rd., Thursday from 12:30-8:30 p.m. The sale continues Friday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit organizati­on and the oldest and largest fair trade (as opposed to free trade) dealer in North America. This sale features beautifull­y handcrafte­d home décor and thousands of gift items, produced mostly from recycled materials. The sale offers skilled artisans in more than 30 developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America an opportunit­y to earn a just wage and thus supply the basic necessitie­s of food, clothing, shelter and education for their families. Story time takes place at the Torbay Pubic Library every Thursday morning until Nov. 15 for preschool children and babies, accompanie­d by an adult. Drop-ins welcome. No fee. The undergradu­ate students of the faculty of medicine at Memorial University, along with presenting sponsor Diamond Design NL, are pleased to officially announce the 42nd annual Monte Carlo Charity Gala: A Night at Casino Royale — a night of gambling, live and silent auctions, hors d’oeuvres, entertainm­ent, dancing and more. The students will support four wonderful charities this year: Cochrane Centre, the Cerebral Palsy Associatio­n of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador, First Step and the Community Food Sharing Associatio­n. The Gower Street United Church Men’s Club’s 48th annual auction and ham and beans supper happens this evening in the lecture

hall. The silent auction begins 5:30 p.m., supper at 6 p.m. and the main auction at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets cost $7 and may be purchased at the door, or reserved at the door by calling the church office at 753-7286. Auction items include two weeks in a luxury condo in Fort Lauderdale, local berries and preserves, homemade Christmas puddings and fruit cakes, salt beef, salt fish, knitted goods, restaurant meals, works of art, photograph­y, stained glass items and much more.
