Coin and Food Drive

Holy Heart High School is celebratin­g its 60th anniversar­y Saturday, Nov. 17. Holy Heart student council is asking our community and Holy Heart alumni to help us celebrate this milestone by donating to a coin and food drive being held Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the school, located at 55 Bonaventur­e Ave. Students will be in the parking lot to receive your non-perishable food items or donation of coin. A benefit concert at the C.B.S. Legion, Branch 50 (60 Legion Rd., Conception Bay South) to support veterans. Featuring the choir from Musically Inclined, under the direction of Kerri Kao, and young people from the musical theatre group. Tickets ($10) can be purchased at the door.

Masterwork­s 2: Ra, Ra, Rafael

Masterwork­s 2 is a musical filled evening with guests Rafael Hoekman, Jeffrey Rink and the Philharmon­ic Choir of the Newfoundla­nd Symphony Orchestra. Rafael Hoekman, cello, is known for his spirited and fiery performanc­es and will join guest conductor Jeffrey Rink with the Newfoundla­nd Symphony Orchestra to perform ‘Ra, Ra, Rafael’ including: Glinka’s ‘A Life for the Tsar Overture’, Shostakovi­ch’s ‘Cello Concerto No. 1’, Borodin’s ‘Symphony No. 2’, Borodin’s ‘Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor’. James J. O’mara Pharmacy Museum is located at 488 Water St., St. John’s. Join us from 1 to 4 p.m. as we learn to paint lavender with artist Jill Moores. Part of a Medicinal Flowers Watercolou­r Workshop Series! Cost: $30. All supplies are included and a tour of the Pharmacy Museum is provided before the class. Space is limited. Upcoming Monte Carlo Gala

The undergradu­ate students of the faculty of medicine at Memorial University, along with presenting sponsor Diamond Design NL, are pleased to officially announce the 42nd annual Monte Carlo Charity Gala: A Night at Casino Royale — a night of gambling, live and silent auctions, hors d’oeuvres, entertainm­ent, dancing and more. The students will support four wonderful charities this year: Cochrane Centre, the Cerebral Palsy Associatio­n of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador, First Step and the Community Food Sharing Associatio­n. Studio5ive art exhibit and sale, “The Eyes Have It,” in support of the Manuels

River Hibernia Interpreta­tion Centre, takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at the centre. The five women of Studio5ive (Joanne Stone, Velma Dalton Boudreau, Tessa Crosbie, Shelley Blundon and Glenda Bartlett) will have original works, art prints and greeting cards for sale. The Gower Street United Church Men’s Club’s 48th annual auction and ham and beans supper happens this evening in the lecture hall. The silent auction begins 5:30 p.m., supper at 6 p.m. and the main auction at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets cost $7 and may be purchased at the door, or reserved at the door by calling the church office at 753-7286. Auction items include two weeks in a luxury condo in Fort Lauderdale, local berries and preserves, homemade Christmas puddings and fruit cakes, salt beef, salt fish, knitted goods, restaurant meals, works of art, photograph­y, stained glass items and much more. It’s a great way to find the perfect Christmas gift for that special someone.

Join The Fluvarium for an evening celebratio­n on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Share a story and hot

Raise glasses and funds for the Mummers Festival by attending Mummers Paint Nite Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at the Benevolent Irish Society, and Monday, Nov. 26 from 7-9 p.m. at Glendennin­g Golf Course.
