5:30 p.m. Auction and supper
The Gower Street United Church Men’s Club’s 48th annual auction and ham and beans supper happens Tuesday evening in the lecture hall. The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m., supper is at 6 p.m. and the main auction is at 7 p.m. Dinner tickets cost $7 and may be purchased at the door, or reserved at the door by calling the church office at 753-7286. Auction items include two weeks in a luxury condo in Fort Lauderdale, local berries and preserves, homemade Christmas puddings and fruit cakes, salt beef, salt fish, knitted goods, restaurant meals, works of art, photography, stained glass items and much more. It’s a great way to find the perfect Christmas gift for that special someone.

Winter Solstice Celebration at Fluvarium
Join the Fluvarium for an evening celebration on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Share a story and hot chocolate, decorate a tree full of treats as a gift for the animals and sing some holiday songs. Terry Fox Charity Basketball Game
The Memorial University Terry Fox Committee presents the 2nd annual Terry Fox Charity Basketball Game at Memorial’s Physical Education Gym, PE2000, on the university’s St. John’s campus. Local celebrities, including athletes, media personalities, politicians and others, will come together for an evening of familyfriendly fun and sport in support of cancer research. Proceeds from the event will support the Terry Fox Foundation, Newfoundland and Labrador chapter, for cancer research. Spectators are encouraged to wear their Terry Fox T-shirts, and Terry Fox Foundation merchandise will also be available for sale at the event. Doors open at 6 p.m. Game starts at 6:30 p.m.
