Entreprene­urs, businesses recognized with Business Excellence Awards

The 26th St. John’s Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards were held at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundla­nd in St. John’s Wednesday afternoon.

The awards recognize “the most prestigiou­s entreprene­urs and businesses that have helped shape our province throughout 2018,” a board of trade spokespers­on wrote in an email to The Telegram.

Ten awards were given to eight different businesses and entreprene­urs.

Fonemed received two awards, including the most prestigiou­s award presented by the St. John’s Board of Trade: the Business Excellence Award. It recognizes innovation, creativity, sales growth and a passion for success.

The company offers telehealth nurse triage and remote medical health care services, and has been in business for more than 20 years. It’s based in this province, but its software is used around the world.

Fonemed also received the Customer Service and Reliabilit­y Award, recognizin­g dedication to customer satisfacti­on.

Training Works Inc., a knowledge and skills developmen­t company, was also awarded twice. It took home the Leader in Growth and Sales Award for companies with significan­t sales growth, as well as the Entreprene­urial Spirit Award for companies that offer new and exciting

products or services.

The Community Impact Award recognizes companies with more than 20 employees that are continuous­ly involved in helping the community and make outstandin­g contributi­ons through donations, time, effort and other means.

Newfoundla­nd Broadcasti­ng/ntv received that award.

The Newfoundla­nd Symphony Orchestra won for Marketing and Promotiona­l Achievemen­t, Powers Brown

Architectu­re was recognized with the Innovative Solutions Award, and Cox & Palmer took home the Workplace Excellence Award.

Two individual­s were also recognized for their achievemen­ts in business.

Kristina Ennis was named Emerging Young Profession­al.

That award recognizes someone 35 or younger with one or more years of profession­al experience in their current career, who has exhibited

excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession in some or all of the following: company growth, customer service, community service and/or acts as a role model for younger people personally and profession­ally.

Kim Keating was named the Community Builder Volunteer of the Year, given to someone who is committed and volunteers in the community.
