Shots fired at St. John’s residence overnight

No injuries in what RNC calls a ‘targeted act’

A home on New Pennywell Road was hit with bullets in what police are calling a targeted attack late Thursday night in St. John’s.

The RNC’S major crime unit is investigat­ing, but has not arrested anyone.

In an emailed statement, police said a vehicle was reported to have been seen speeding away from the area, but investigat­ors have not yet determined whether the responsibl­e person or persons were on foot or in a vehicle.

The RNC responded to a report just after 11:45 p.m. that shots were fired.

“When officers arrived, they located a residence that had visible damage consistent with rounds from a firearm,” the RNC stated in a news release.

“Forensic officers also located damage inside of the home. There was at least one individual in the home at the time, who was not injured. Police Service Dog (PSD) Gunner and his handler located a number of empty casings nearby.”

No one was injured. Police said they don’t believe the public is at risk.

The investigat­ion is ongoing. and investigat­ors are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
