Artists at The Heritage Shop

Visit local artists, Dave Hoddinott and Leona Ottenheime­r, at The Water Street Gallery on the second floor of The Heritage Shop (309 Water St.). Featuring a wide selection of local artwork and great gift ideas. Artists will be in the studio Wednesdays to Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. until December 23.

ATC’S Christmas Tea & Sale

A craft fair at the Anna Templeton Centre (278 Duckworth St.) with over 50 local artists and craftspeop­le on three floors, and tea room serving a yummy lunch, coffee/tea and sweet treats. Hours are Friday 12-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday 12 - 5 p.m. Admission is just $2 (free for kids under 12) and it includes a chance to win some fabulous door prizes.

Gerald Squires Gallery

The Gerald Squires Gallery, 52 Prescott St., presents some works saved toward the establishm­ent of a museum of Squires’ life and work. Also on hand will be paintings, drawings, prints, limited edition hand-bound books and fine art reproducti­ons by such artists as Boyd Chubbs, George Horan, Sharon Puddester, Des Walsh and Gerry Squires. Rasa at The Rooms

Rasa is the award-winning duo of Erin Best and Sandy Morris. Since the release of their Christmas album “Do You Hear What I Hear?” in 2004, they have performed live shows featuring songs from that record and other Christmas favourites. Upcoming Holiday Wassail

The 13th annual Holiday Wassail at George Street United Church is coming up on Sunday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m., featuring Fretboard Journey, the Swinging Belles, the Kubasonics, the Old Contempora­ries and Friends, the Quintessen­tial Vocal Ensemble, Dave Paddon, Elizabeth Clarke, the Mummer & the Paupers and the STEP Fiddlers.

10 a.m. Away in a Manger

An exhibit of nativity scenes from around the world at the Basilica Museum, right next door to the Basilica. This exhibit is ongoing Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day until Dec. 23. Admission is free but gifts for children in need can be placed under our tree. All are welcome. A great way to get in the spirit of Christmas.

1 p.m. Haircuts for Hope

Haircuts for Hope is a monthly event where local barbers and hairstylis­ts team up with Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Beard & Moustache Club to donate their services at no charge in a judgement free environmen­t. The event is open to the public, and anyone who may not otherwise be able to afford a haircut is invited to come to Froude Avenue Community Centre from 1-4 p.m. for a trim. We’re always looking for awesome barbers/ stylists to join our volunteer team! Anyone interested is asked to get in touch with NLBMC via our Facebook Page.

Merry and Bright Holiday Light Festival

The Merry and Bright Holiday Light Festival launches at the MUN Botanical Garden this evening. With well over 50,000 lights and hundreds of glowing candles, festival highlights include an extended caterpilla­r of lights, the giant puffins, a glowing garden of candles and the 12 gnomes of Christmas. After sold out nights in previous seasons, the garden is thrilled to announce that this year the festival is running more nights than ever. Merry and Bright will take place Nov. 28-30, Dec. 1-2, Dec. 5-9, Dec.12-16 and Dec.19-22. Parking is located at the Marine Institute on Ridge Road. Every 20 minutes, guests can hop aboard a free shuttle to and from the festival at 306 Mount Scio Rd., complete with carol singing. For tickets, visit: https://www.mun.ca/ botgarden/.

St. John’s Youth Social Justice Society

The St. John’s Youth Social Justice Society is hosting a bingo fundraiser in support of The North East Avalon Food Bank. The event will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion (5 Legion Rd.) in Portugal Cove. Funds will be used to support the annual Christmas hamper project for families in need during the holidays. We invite individual­s and groups of all ages to join us. Bingo cards can be purchased for $2 or 3 for $5. There are lots of great prizes to be won!

St. James United Church hosts an evening of Christmas music, including a congregati­onal carol sing with performanc­es by: The St. James Senior Choir under the direction of organist Paul Rodermond; Amy Dalziel (St. James’ other organist and pianist); The St. James Jazz Trio; Alison Petten (singer); Project Grace (a children’s musical education program); and Gillian Sheppard (flutist). Everyone, regardless of faith, race, age, gender, etc., is truly welcome to join in the Christmas celebratio­n! Entrance admission is a freewill offering.
