Manfred Buchheit is a prolific photographer known for his work with pinhole photography and other experimental photographic processes. Join Buchheit for a presentation about his work and a look at his exhibition, “Corners,” in the Vitrines on Level 2.5 at The Rooms. Celebrate with fans around the world on Harry Potter Book Night 2019 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Torbay Public Library. Free event. No registration required. Activities for kids and fans of all ages at “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” Games, spells, crafts, sorting hat, trivia, prizes. Come early for the Hogwarts School Welcome. Feel free to wear a witch, wizard or Harry Potter-themed costume or bring your Harry Potter art or items to share. Children under age eight must be accompanied.

Let’s Make a Choir 2019, under the direction of Valerie Long and now in its fifth year, is open for registration. Come and enjoy a unique 10-week session for adults. It begins in March and culminates with a concert performance in June. No audition, no experience required, but tons of fun while learning choral music. Hope for a Winter’s Night
Gower Street United Church will host a unique community gathering entitled “Hope for a Winter’s Night.” The event will be a quiet time of reflection through inspirational song, reading and prayer and is open to those who are grieving a loss of any type, find winter difficult, are struggling with illness, or would like a quiet space of inspiration and hope. Paradise Lost: The Art of Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin
This two-hour lecture with Beth Pratt at Memorial University (Education Building, Room 2003) focuses on the life and art of postimpressionist painters Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. We’ll look at what makes their art unique, how they were influenced, the relationship with each other and the art that they’ve inspired. Dropins are welcome. The cost is $25 per person.
