COOMBS Jean (Lewis)

-

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jean Coombs (Lewis) announce her passing on February 13, 2019 in her 90th year. She is leaving behind three children, Dr. Heather Coombs, Bruce (Kimberly) Coombs, and Brenda (Terry) Anstey; grandchildren Andrea (Sean) Coombs, Matthew (Chelsea) Coombs, and Michael Anstey; greatgrandson Nash; sister Verna (Tom) Corder, and sister-in-law Mary Baines. She also leaves to mourn a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Leslie, parents John and Naomi Lewis and her sister Margaret. Many thanks to the health care workers at the Corner Brook LTC centre for their kindness, compassion and excellent care in her final months. We owe a great debt of gratitude to her very special caregivers Edna Brake and Barbara Sheppard for their day to day support over the past several years.

Jean started her career as a teacher at Corner Brook Public School and retired many years later from CC Loughlin elementary school where she loved every day in her Grade 4 class. She was a member of the Newfoundland Retired Teachers Association as well as the Anglican Church Women’s Association for many years.

Jean had a love of art and music, was an avid bridge player, and took every opportunity to travel. She dearly loved to spend time with her many friends.

The family will receive family and friends at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Marks Ave on Saturday February 16 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday February 17, 2019 at 2pm from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Main Street Corner Brook, Reverend Catherine Short officiating. As an expression of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or donations may be made to the Newfoundland and Labrador Retired Teachers Foundation for Children’s Charities.
