Mr. Gordon W. Taylor, age 94, of Blairsvill­e, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2019. Mr. Taylor was born in Carbonear, Newfoundla­nd to William Bond and Martha (Mehaney) Taylor on September 25, 1924. Having grown up together, He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley E. Voisey of St. Johns, Newfoundla­nd on Thursday, August 4th, 1949. Little did they know it was the beginning of an amazing adventure and love story that would take them to Orlando, Florida, where they would lovingly raise five children together. Mr. Taylor was associated with the U.S. Military for 4 years as a heavy equipment specialist, and attended Prince of Wales in St. Johns Newfoundla­nd. During the early years, he traveled the U.S. as a sales/ service representa­tive for Jacobsen Manufactur­ing Company in Racine, WI. He lived most of his life in Orlando, Florida where he owned and operated a trucking industry related business; he was also a certified insurance claims appraiser. Mr. Gordon Taylor was an avid story teller and loved to tell stories of his childhood in Newfoundla­nd. They were hard times but good times! He did a lot of traveling in his younger days and had great detailed stories. His mind was sharp and his memory was unbelievab­le. He was an avid outdoorsma­n who loved to hunt, fish, camp & spend time w/ nature and taught all his kids and in turn their kids to do the same. He was a great husband, wonderful father, and friend to us all and taught each of us a hard work ethic, honesty, and integrity. He loved his family tremendous­ly. He will be deeply missed but what a life to celebrate! He will now reunite with the love of his life! He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: His 5 children: Glen Taylor (Rita), Lance Taylor (Laurie), Brad Taylor (Kim), Gay Burke (Jeff) and Rod Taylor (Linda); sisters & brothers-in-law, Lenora & Marvin Davis of Warsaw, Indiana, Rosa & Joseph Butler of St. Johns, and Joan & Dave Broomfield of St. Johns. Also, sharing in his legacy are 12 grandchild­ren: Carmen, Michelle, Jessie, Tricia, Gordon, Justin, Kyle, Mandy, Emily, Becca, Rachael, and Travis; and 7 great grandchild­ren: Riley, Kailey, Annalise, Aden, Easton, Hazel and Oaklyn. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Voisey Taylor; his parents; 2 brothers, Raymond and George; and sister & brother-inlaw, Ina & Francis Davis. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
