Poetic justice for young Liberal supporters?

-

According to a recent column in Maclean’s Magazine, Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have the youth vote (18-24) wrapped up for the coming federal election.

This age group was instrumental in electing the Liberals in 2015 and the Liberals are confident history will repeat itself.

I believe this is poetic justice at its finest — those that are responsible for enabling this profligately spending government will be responsible for paying the piper in the future. And make no mistake, they will pay since any thought that borrowed money is somehow spent without future sacrifice is naive in the extreme.

Buying tax payer votes with their own money is a tried and true Canadian practice and has been finetuned by this Liberal government.

I remember very clearly the similar spending practices of the Prime Minister’s father, Pierre Trudeau, who racked up some 15 years of deficit budgets during his 15 years in power.

These deficits were the seeds of the ensuing financial crisis that saw close to 40 per cent of the federal budget spent on interest payments in the mid 1990s and placed Canada in the heady company of Third World corrupt dictatorships.

The debt as a percentage of GDP mantra that the Liberals use as an excuse to enable this reckless spending is a red herring.

Irrespective of what this ratio is, this borrowed money will still have to be paid back either through higher taxes or fewer services.

It would behove the youth vote to examine the trouble debt caused Canadian taxpayers and the Canadian economy in the past. History is about to repeat itself.
