Wearing a shirt representing a Newfoundland and Labrador craft brewery helped a couple from the Trinity South area stand out in a crowd when the unofficial mayor of Dildo happened to be passing by in New York City.

Roxanne and Trevor Harnum were outside the studio where ABC daytime talk show "Live with Kelly and Ryan" was filming Monday when Jimmy Kimmel, a guest on the show that day, was outside and making his way back into the studio.

Roxanne and Trevor, who are originally from Heart's Content and Heart's Delight, respectively, and now live in Mount Pearl, decided to take their Dildo Brewing Company shirts with them on the trip and were wearing them Monday.

"My husband said, 'Hey Jimmy, look at our shirts.' And, of course, he looked at the shirts and was smiling from ear to ear. He said, 'Holy ... ' you know. My husband was still filming at this point and he said, 'Oh, my people!' We found that pretty exciting and pretty hilarious."

Kimmel usually produces his latenight talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in Los Angeles, but has been in New York this week taping special episodes of the program, which began airing on ABC in 2003. Kimmel's profile in Newfoundland and Labrador grew considerably after "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" aired a segment earlier this year poking fun at an NTV news report on the community of Dildo. The show later sent a crew to the town to film segments, including one where cast member Guillermo Rodriguez was screeched in. Kimmel was also declared mayor of Dildo, with a condition attached that he eventually take a trip to the community.

The Harnums were in New York for a family holiday along with their daughter, Payten. They thought it would be fun to take Payten to a taping of "Live with Kelly and Ryan" — hosted by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest — but the Harnums did not have tickets. Oddly enough, Kimmel happened to be one of the guests that day.

They ultimately didn't make it inside, but decided to stick around outside for the show. Payten got to meet Seacrest, which her mom said was quite thrilling. Crew members from "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" were also there, as the show was taping a tour of Brooklyn that day, and some of them were part of the team that travelled to Dildo.

Roxanne said they had a lot of nice things to say about the experience.

The Harnums were noticed after getting pictures taken with Kimmel's bus while wearing the brewery shirts.

"They were saying how they had a fabulous trip out there," Roxanne said.

The crew gave Roxanne and Trevor a heads up before the end of Kimmel's segment about when he would make his way outside, which helped pave the way for a quick interaction with the Harnums that included getting their picture taken with the talk show host.

"He was very nice, very obliging to get the picture," Roxanne said.

They were offered tickets to a taping of Kimmel's show in Brooklyn, but there was another factor to consider.

"Our daughter is not old enough, obviously, to get into his show," Roxanne laughed.
