Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador in the same situation

- Chris Gross Edmonton, Alberta

It is weird that Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador are at odds when we both have the same problem — money leaving the province to Quebec to support federal politicians.

Alberta sends money to Quebec in transfer payments while Newfoundland and Labrador sells hydro at basement prices ($2) to Quebec so Quebec gets low electric prices, and then resells it to others at $85.

And who does Quebec vote in? The BQ. So, Quebec for Quebec …

I hope you are on the doorsteps of your liberal MPS yelling at them for a fair Supreme Court hearing that is not biased with Quebec judges.

It’s weird Justin Trudeau was willing to go to the mat for SNC Lavelin, but was quiet on the Churchill renewal. I guess Newfoundland did not matter in his re-election plans. He cannot afford to lose his Liberal seats in Newfoundland, not when Quebec has turned their backs on him.

As minority stakeholders in Churchill Falls (individually) and as a whole majority stakeholders you should just close Churchill as it is unprofitable to you. Quebec and Justin will come to the table.

Now is the time to strike. March on your MPS. Demand action on Churchill Falls. The deal is not between two corporations, but two provinces and it is a bad deal, and as a confederation it should be dealt with.

Justin loves the word reconciliation and righting past wrongs.

The profits leaving Newfoundland from Churchill Falls have shaped the province for a generations, and left Newfoundland as a have-not province for generations.

Time to correct past wrongs.
