Government seeks feedback on multi-year funding for community sector

-

The provincial government is seeking input from community organizations — including current funding recipients, the broader sector and the public — to help plan for multi-year funding.

An online questionnaire is available at engagenl.ca.

A news release states the consultations were committed to in April 2019 as part of the release of The Way Forward with Community, which highlights the social and economic importance of the sector and was developed in collaboration with the community sector following province-wide consultations.

“Our government is a committed partner of the community sector and its more than 16,000 employees, which is reflected in the wide-ranging discussions we had at the Community Sector Summit,” Premier Dwight Ball stated in the release.

“Together, we can take the necessary steps to making it easier for organizations to succeed while balancing our need to be fiscally responsible. The information collected through this evaluation will help guide next steps.”

The release states the provincial government spends more than $115 million annually in the community sector.

In 2018, and before committing taxpayers’ dollars into long-term financial commitments, the government committed to providing 22 organizations with multi-year funding and to conducting a review of whether the approach is effective while ensuring that flexibility exists for funding future priorities.
