MAHER (NEE WHITTY) Marie Catherine

Oct 12, 1914 – Jan 10, 2020 Born in Torbay Newfoundland. Registered Nurse, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Gardener, Artist, Author, Singer, Baker and Square Dancer - a life well lived. Marie passed away at Saint Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s on January 10, 2020. She leaves behind loving daughters: Noreen in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Marilyn Barfoot (Joe Kral) in Houston, Texas, and devoted son John (Marti) in Calgary, Alberta. She is remembered fondly by her grandchildren: Douglas, Sharon (Greg Bonner), and David (Lisa) Maher all in Calgary, Aaron (Jennifer) Barfoot in New York, and Michael (Claudia) Barfoot in Colorado, and her great grandchildren: John F. Maher and Adam Maher in Alberta, Logan and Noelle Barfoot in New York, and Milo and Nomi Barfoot in Colorado. Marie was predeceased by her devoted husband Francis J. Maher, her mother and father John and Mary Whitty, her sisters Madeline and Ellen, and brother Francis Whitty. She is survived by her brother Stan Whitty (Barbara). She also had warm feelings for all of her many nieces and nephews, especially Glen and Niki Whitty, and grandniece Sarah Whitty. She had many relatives and friends in Newfoundland and Labrador, in Canada and in the United States. Her family gives thanks to all of her great neighbors on Larch Place, especially to Peggy and Clarence Stone, for their attention and companionship, she enjoyed their great games of bridge; to the Pastors at Pius X Parish and her many great friends there; to the family practice at the Health Science Center; and to the staff at Tiffany Village and St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for their care and attention; and finally, special thanks to physicians Dr. Bob Miller and Dr. Cheri Bethune. An announcement will be forthcoming regarding a celebration of her life.
