MCDONALD Mary Matthew (Power)

-

(May 22, 1919 - Jan 14, 2020) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence on January 14, 2020 of our most gentle, loving, and gracious mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in her 101st year. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Tobias F. Mcdonald, also a centenarian, in January, 2014. They would have been married 75 years in July, 2020. Mary was the last surviving member of the family of Edward and Rose Ellen Power, who were among the earliest families to build houses on Mullock Street. The youngest member of her family, she was predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters and their spouses: William (Iris Mcgrath), Richard (Mary Hamilton), Kathleen, Michael (Annie O’neil, Mary Bransfield), Leo (Dorothy Snow), James, Eleanor (Robert Myrick), Edward (Marie Foley), Patrick (Rita Kearsey). It was a quiet, dignified, but unassuming family of which she was most proud. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her long and loving life, are her daughter, Maureen (James Dunne), son Toby (Noreen Byrne), cherished grandchildren Andrea (Michael) Sweeney, Kieran Dunne, Toby (Vanessa) Dunne, Sarah Mcdonald (Tak Ishiwata), Mark (Michelle) Mcdonald; and her greatgrandchildren: Cian, Ava and Eoin Sweeney, Conall Dunne, Abigail and Samuel Dunne, and Gwyneth and Simon Mcdonald. Our family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence for the excellent nursing care, professional love and attention as well as opportunities for social connection that were accorded to our beloved mother over the past four and half years. We couldn’t have asked for any better care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Caul’s Funeral Home, Lemarchant Road. Visitation hours are as follows: Wednesday, January 15, 7-9pm, Thursday, January 16, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Church, Waterford Bridge Road, on Saturday January 18 at 9:30am. A reception will follow immediately after Mass at the Parish Hall. All attendees are welcome. Inurnment will be held at a date. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
