Passed peacefully away at Admiral’s Coast Retirement Centre on May 4, 2020, at the age of 97 with her daughter, Debbie, holding her hand. Predecease­d by her loving husband, Lloyd Walters, infant daughter Alma, daughter Joyce Murphy, granddaugh­ter Terri-lynn Strang, parents Henry and Martha Lakin, sisters Olive (Tucker), Agnes (Summers), Thelma (Dagg), and step-brothers Leslie and Albert Field. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories are her daughter Debbie Strang (Terry), son-in-law Dave Murphy, her grandsons who she adored: Trevor Murphy (Jo-ann), Stephen Murphy (Donna), and Chris Strang (Anthony Hanlon), great grandchild­ren Ryan Murphy and Jennifer Murphy, as well as her brother Fred Lakin (Dora). Also left with loving memories are her nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Grant and Laura Morgan and the wonderful, kind and compassion­ate staff of Admiral’s Coast Retirement Centre in Kelligrews who took such amazing care of mom during her 4 years there. Also thank you for the level of care and compassion shown to mom and Debbie during her final days - it was second to none. You fulfilled mom’s wish to live out her life at Admiral’ s Coast. Thank you to mom’s family physician, Dr. Sheau Chain Ng, for her care and dedication in working with Community Health to ensure mom was able to live out her final days at Admiral’s Coast Retirement Centre. Also a special thank you to Kim Buckle, CBS Community Health Nurse, for your exceptiona­l care, concern and compassion. You are amazing and our lives have been enriched by you.

At her request, cremation has taken place however due to the Public Health Advisory of COVID-19, there will be no visitation at this time.

A celebratio­n of her life will be held at a later date. Donations in Joy’s memory can be made to Shriner’s Burn Unit for Children, Cystic Fibrosis Canada – NL Chapter or a charity of one’s choice. To send a message of condolence, visit www.carnells.com.
