Are our COVID cocoons too tight?

-

After a long hard winter, most people in Newfoundland are a bit depressed and looking forward to the only bit of good weather we get, which is in July and August, but it seems our government is sentencing us to house arrest for most of the summer.

We are social beings and we need to be able to associate with friends and neighbours or else we could have a population of severely depressed people and the trouble that brings.

It is not like we have a great problem with this virus with days on end with no new cases, but we are the strictest province in Canada when it comes to letting businesses open and people visit families and friends.

If they are trying to break our spirits, they are doing a good job. Fear of the unknown is a good tool for controlling people. Since this lockdown I personally have come in contact with and spoken to three people.

If this goes on much longer I may lose the skill to carry on a conversation with a person. For a body to have a strong immune system, we need to be coming in contact with other people and even a few germs or else we will not be able to fight off a common cold.

How many people will die because we cannot visit a doctor for fear of contacting this virus, meanwhile serious ailments don’t get diagnosed until it is too late.

Living life always has an element of danger, while living safely in our cocoons we may be safe from this virus, but is this really living? Everett Adams Grand Falls-windsor
