RCMP charges three drivers with impaired

Two men and one woman are facing charges of impaired driving following traffic stops by the RCMP in Newfoundla­nd on Monday and Tuesday.

About 6 p.m. Monday, Burin Peninsula RCMP stopped a pickup truck on Ville Marie Drive in Marystown for infraction­s under the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver, a 34-year-old Marystown man, was found to be impaired by alcohol, police stated in a news release. He was arrested and taken to the detachment, where he provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit, police said. He was issued a driver’s licence suspension and ticketed for having no insurance, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

On Monday at 8:40 p.m. in Ferryland, the RCMP stopped a vehicle for speeding.

The driver, a 46-year-old Ferryland man, was found to be impaired by alcohol, police said. He was arrested for impaired driving and was taken to the detachment, where he provided breath samples that were more than three times the legal limit, police stated. He was issued a driver’s licence suspension and ticketed for speeding, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

On Tuesday at 3:30 a.m., the Bay St. George RCMP stopped a vehicle on Minnesota Drive in Stephenvil­le. Officers observed open alcohol within the cup holder of the vehicle and the driver, a 22-year-old Stephenvil­le woman, failed a roadside breath test, police stated.

She was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the detachment, where she provided breath samples that were more than the legal limit, police said. She was issued a driver’s licence suspension and her vehicle was seized and impounded.

All three drivers were released from custody and are set to attend court at later dates to answer to charges of impaired driving.
