Rideau Hall intruder wrote letter before attack

-

OTTAWA — The man who’s alleged to have crashed his truck through the gates of Rideau Hall, with multiple firearms on hand, wrote a two-page letter claiming that Canada was becoming a communist dictatorship, according to a Global News report.

Corey Barclay Hurren, 46, was arrested last Thursday. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family live on the grounds of Rideau Hall, as well as the Governor General. Hurren, a Canadian Armed Forces member, was charged with 22 offences on Friday.

Twenty-one of those were firearms offences related to the four loaded weapons he’s alleged to have had; the rest had to do with alleged threats against Trudeau.

In the letter, Global News reported, Hurren apologized and said that the COVID-19 pandemic was causing a loss of government accountability and that he had lost work, fearing that his truck would be seized and he would lose his position with the Canadian Rangers.

Global News also reported Hurren said Canada needed a wakeup call and that he was upset he was unable to visit the Canadian War Museum when he visited Ottawa for Canada Day. National Post was unable to verify Global News’ reporting.
