Sagging jet stream stops the sizzle

I’ve often commented on how difficult it is – or maybe impossible, to please everyone with a weather forecast.

The statement “it’s been a great summer” doesn’t apply if you’re bothered by high humidity levels or if you rely on well water. It does, however, fit the bill if you’re spending lots of time at a cottage or a beach.

With very few exceptions our summer has been hotter and drier than normal; we can blame the elusive jet stream for that. While we’re enjoying a little dip in the jet stream, it’s only temporary.

By midweek next week, that ribbon of fast-moving air that divides hot air from cool and along which weather systems travel will be pushed northward by a perennial offshore system known as the Bermuda High. Since rain systems travel along this stream, we shouldn’t expect much in the way of significant rain. The heat will slowly build and by the end of next week, temperatures will once again climb to unseasonably warm values and the dreaded humidity will return.
