Passed peacefully away to join her husband and best friend Tony, Mercedes Silver, age 88 years, at the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre on April 18, 2021, the matriarch of her large family. Her compassion, generosity, and quick wit and sense of humour never left her, right to the very end. Predecease­d by her husband Tony in 2010, parents Elizabeth and Jack Lake; her first grandchild Heather in 1980; son-in-law Terry Clarke; her sister Beatrice & husband Fred Murphy; brother Tom Lake & wife Marie; brothers Gerard Lake and Aiden Brown; brothers-in-law Dan Mulrooney, Fred Mulrooney, Bob Silver; sisters-in-law Monnie Lake, Theresa Williams and good friend and sister-in-law Marie Escott and her husband Bud. Leaving with many fond and treasured memories 11 children including 5 sons: Tony (Sheila), Shawn (Bruce Pearce), Mike (Callista), Pat (Stephanie), and Tom (Kelly); 6 daughters: Donna Clarke, Bobbie Flynn (Jim), Jackie Higdon (Brian), Rose Mullett (Jim), Theresa Antle (Gerald), and Micki Silver (Jeff Knox); along with 20 grandchild­ren and 16 greatgrand­children; sisters: Madonna Mulrooney, Nora Mulrooney, Martha Lake (Jim) Regina Hawco (Derm), Maureen Cheeseman (Jim), Lynette Cheeseman (Pius); brothers Henry Lake (Mary); Dennis Lake (Loretta); Jack Lake (Herberta); sisters-in-law Mary Lake (Rushoon), Rosa Smith (Maine), Phyllis Cavallini (Toronto), Dolly Silver (New Hampshire); brother-in-law Louie Silver (Beverly) of Massachuse­tts; also a very large number of close nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the four dedicated caregivers who helped our family give mom the round-the-clock care she needed over the past several years. To Dr. Kelly Monaghan, for the personal and compassion­ate care you gave to mom for the past 5 years, we can’t thank you enough. Mercedes will be resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 Lemarchant Road, on Tuesday, April 20th, with viewing from 2pm – 9pm. Funeral will take place at Corpus Christi Parish, Waterford Bridge Road, on Wednesday, April 21st at 9:30am. Due to COVID-19 restrictio­ns and the large number of family members, the funeral must be closed to invited guests only however, it will be livestream­ed.
