The Telegram (St. John's)

We’ve got a brand new website

-

Welcome to Saltwire.com 2.0 — your new digital destination for the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment from Atlantic Canada.

Since we announced earlier this month that we were merging all our online Saltwire.com news sites — including The Chronicle Herald, The Guardian, The Cape Breton Post and The Telegram — we know some readers have been wondering what that means for the newspaper mastheads that have been around for so long.

Well, the short answer is, nothing.

We know that change can bring trepidation and confusion and we want to assure you that our daily papers will continue to be printed six days a week under the names they’ve each had for more than 100 years; names you know and trust.

All our publications can still be read online as e-editions — digital replicas that allow you to print, share and save our content. You’ll find a link to the e-editions right above the Saltwire name on the new website. It’s a fun way to read the news — or have it read to you. Check it out.

As well, we want to be clear that no journalists have been laid off because of this move. In fact, we’ve increased the number of reporters writing for us, with a goal of producing more stories across the network each week and to improve quality and quantity.

What the new version of Saltwire.com means for online viewers and readers is something different altogether. Something faster, cleaner and streamlined.

Now, when people log onto the website for their daily news, they will be redirected to the corresponding geographic location on saltwire.com. So, for example, Telegram readers will arrive at https://www.saltwire.com/newfoundland-labrador/. Herald readers will land on https://www. saltwire.com/halifax/, and so on. It’s similar to how other multi-province news organizations have organized their websites.

Our new site offers a better online experience than before. The site has a cleaner design, is faster, and enables us to be more innovative in our digital, multimedia storytelling — watch for new videos each day from our multimedia team as well as Saltwire meteorologist Cindy Day’s regularly updated forecasts and weather facts.

You can access Saltwire.com through our new Saltwire app, which is the among the fastest-growing news apps in Atlantic Canada. It offers readers the ability to customize by their location and/or the topic they’re interested in, and is available for Apple and Android.

Quite simply, we want to give our subscribers the best experience they can have in reading news that’s local and immediate, national and international, thought-provoking and insightful., as well as commentaries that are informative and insightful. We’ve got crisp photography, videos and podcasts and some of the best storytelling you’ll find in the country.

We’re proud of the work that went into Saltwire.com 2.0 but, of course, you will be the judge.
