Two news businesses will be setting up to provide food and beverage services at Bannerman Park.

Coun. Jamie Korab made the announcement Tuesday during St. John’s City Council’s weekly meeting.

The Bannerman Park Canteen, formerly operated by Beavertails, will be occupied by The Nickel Café.

As well, request for proposals for a mobile vending permit has been awarded to MVAN (The Mobile Vendors Association of Newfoundland), to be located on Bannerman Road.

“Bannerman Park has many wonderful amenities and is a popular destination throughout the year,” said Korab, council’s lead for community services. “The new business additions to the park will enhance the overall experience for residents while also providing a great opportunity to support local.”

The Nickel Cafe Inc. is a locally owned food-service business. The owners are pleased to announce the opening of The Snack Shack in Bannerman Park in mid-may.

“We are excited to work with the city on this new venture for Bannerman Park,” said Larry Daley, president of The Nickle Café.

He said the Snack Shack will offer a variety of hot and cold food and beverages with healthy options. It will offer everything from coffee, picnic kits, mini charcuterie boards, ice cream and slushies to items such as sunblock.

“Our services focus on families, seniors and groups out enjoying the park,” he said.

MVAN is an industry association for food trucks and other mobile vendors in the province, as well as an advocating body for mobile vendors to represent its collective needs to municipalities across the province.

“Under this newly signed agreement, MVAN members will have the opportunity to schedule various blocks of time at this premiere location,” said Brad Gover, media and communications director for MVAN.

He said city residents who visit the park area will see “a wide variety of food offerings from our membership every week.”
