Passed away peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on May 19, 2021, age 81, after a lengthy illness. Predecease­d by her husband Gerald, parents Hugh and Priscilla Barrett, and sisters Susie, Mabel and Clarice. Leaving to mourn sons Gerald (Maria) and John (Colleen), grandson Matthew, and many other family and friends. She lived life to the fullest, entertaini­ng those around her with legendary homemade bread, cookies, pies and jams. Mom loved her annual trips to the cabin for moose hunting with Dad. She thoroughly enjoyed her visits to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to celebrate her only grandson Matthew’s birthday in June and Christmas festivitie­s. She made sure she was at the rink for Matthews’ hockey games or at the field for his baseball games when she visiting! Matthew was her pride and joy. She was a great storytelle­r and he loved listening to all her stories. Mom was especially devoted to her church in Spaniard’s Bay. She had many lifelong friends who were so good to her all her life and especially in these last years, including Olive, Darlene, Ruby, Marilyn, Mary, Rosie , Joyce and others who we have inadverten­tly missed. A special thank you to Drs. Rorke and Holmes and the staff at the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Centre, Dr. Howse and the staff of the palliative care unit at Carbonear General Hospital and the staff of Compassion Home Care, especially Trudy who was her first homecare worker. Resting at Slade’s Funeral Home, Spaniard’s Bay. Visitation on Thursday: 6-9 P.M. and Friday: 2-5 P.M. Funeral service from Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Spaniard’s Bay on Saturday, May 22 at 2 P.M. This will be by invitation only. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in her memory to Daffodil Place or Holy Redeemer Church, Spaniard’s Bay.
