SEVEN NEW CASES IN PROVINCE ON SUNDAY

-

With Sunday’s announce- ment regarding the Ste- phenville region, it makes two areas of the province back under Alert Level 4.

The other is much of central Newfoundland, and even though the numbers related to a recent outbreak centered in the Lewisporte area have diminished, that cluster still contributed to the stats in Sunday’s provincial COVID-19 numbers, which show a total of seven new confirmed cases.

One case reported in the central Health region Sunday — that of a female under 20 — and another probable case are tied to the cluster. So are two cases in the Eastern Health region, a man and a woman both over the age of 70 and both close contacts of a previously known case. They are both tied to the central cluster and to an exposure advisory for those who visited the Hamlyn Road Subway restaurant in St. John’s a week ago (May 23).

Dr. Rosann Seviour told reporters the identification of these particular cases hasn’t led to increased concern of any spread in the metro region.

Four of Sunday’s cases in the Western Health region. three females under 20 and a woman aged 20-39, all contacts of a known case.

With three new recoveries — all in Central Health — there are now 104 active cases across the province.

Three people are in hospital due to the virus, down from five on Friday. The single-day number of new cases in the province also dropped over the weekend, from 14 on Friday to nine on Saturday to the seven reported Sunday.
