COADY, Catherine Cecilia (Burke) R.N.

-

From Mount Pearl, NL passed away on the 31st May, 2021. Originally from Colliers, NL, she is predeceased by her parents James and Cecilia Burke and in-laws William and Lucy Coady. Cathy leaves to mourn her husband Bill; her loving daughters Renee (Geoff) Churchill and Lori. Loving Nan to her grandsons and “bestest boys” William and Matthew, both of whom she was so deeply proud. The youngest in a long line of siblings, predeceased by Patrick, James, and Betty, and sister-in-law Anne Coady, she is survived by her sister Ann, and treasured niece Sheila. She will be dearly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her large circle of inlaws and extended family, particularly sisters-in-law Paula (Dominic), Margaret, Patricia (Des), Marilyn (Hazen), Anna, and brotherin-law Derm. A proud graduate from St Clare’s School of Nursing, Cathy worked as a Registered Nurse at Palliative Care for many years. Cathy was a fiercely loyal and generous friend to many; so many that to try and name them all would be impossible. She was creative in her way of connecting with people; she was insightful, would hold a secret like a vault, and had a curious way of knowing when people were in need. Her strength, resilience and calm way of dealing with any crisis ensured she was always one of the first to be reached out to for advice. She could always be counted on to play a tune, or two, on one of her accordions and she made sure that her home was constantly filled with music. If anyone ever left the Coady home hungry or thirsty, or not tapping their feet to the music, then it was said to be their own fault. Her love of music could only be matched by her devotion to the Boston Bruins. It was a devotion that spurred many goodnatured family “discussions” with those who dared to favour another hockey team. It was best to heed her advice for the player picks for a Stanley Cup Final pool; somehow, she just knew where the points would go. The family wishes to say a special thankyou to her very good friend Jackie Tucker, whose support, care and kindness during her final days were appreciated more that she will ever know. The family also wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and empathy during Cathy’s final days. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, a private burial and celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home. Donations in Cathy’s memory can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Peter’s Parish.
