Four new cases of COVID-19 in province Monday
Newfoundland and Labrador reported four new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
A news release from Public Health said all cases are in the Western Health region. They are close contacts of previously announced cases, but not related to the recent cluster of cases in the Western Health region.
Contact tracing is underway, and anyone considered a close contact has been advised to quarantine.
Two of the cases are males under the age of 20. The two other cases are females, one under 20 and one between 20-39.
There have been no new recoveries since Sunday, leaving 39 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with three in the Eastern Health region, 11 in the Central Health region and 25 in the Western Health region. There are no active cases in Labrador.
The investigation into the source of the clusters of cases in Central Health and Western Health is ongoing. As of Monday, there were 69 confirmed cases, two probable cases and no new presumptive cases associated with the cluster in the Central Health region.
There are 41 confirmed cases and no new presumptive cases related to the cluster in the Western Health region.
A case reported Saturday, June 5 in the Western Health region has been confirmed to be a close contact of a previous case.
The cases reported Friday, May 28 and Tuesday, June 8 in the Central region and cases reported Thursday, May 27 and Thursday, June 3, Friday, June 4 in the Western region have concluded. Public Health was unable to identify a source of transmission of the cases.
These are called non-epidemiologically linked cases and indicates there is or was an unknown case of COVID-19. Public Health said this could happen because the individual may have been asymptomatic and recovered, left the province or did not seek testing.
The case reported Wednesday, June 9 in the Central Health region and the case reported Wednesday, June 9 in the Western Health region remain under investigation.
