REGINA, Sask. — A man and a woman from Winnipeg charged in the death of a Saskatchewan RCMP officer made their first appearances in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.

Alphonse Stanley Traverse, 41, and Marlene Velma Louise Pagee, 42, are charged with manslaughter for allegedly striking and killing RCMP Const. Shelby Patton on Saturday, after he pulled them over to investigate a complaint of a stolen pickup truck from Manitoba.

After making separate court appearances, Traverse and Pagee were remanded in custody. Pagee returns to court on Friday and Traverse on June 21. Both have been in custody since their arrests on Saturday.

According to information released by the RCMP over the weekend, Indian Head RCMP responded around 7 a.m. on Saturday, to a report of two suspects, who were driving a stolen white Ford F250 pickup truck from Manitoba in Wolseley, Sask.. Patton was dispatched to investigate.

Around 7:50 a.m., Patton was struck and killed by the truck, RCMP said, after pulling the vehicle over in Wolseley.

The Indian Head RCMP was dispatched, while members of the public performed first aid until the arrival of EMS and police. Patton went into cardiac arrest and was declared dead at the scene.

The suspects were arrested just before 10 a.m. without incident, after police received reports from a farmer near Odessa that trespassers in a white pickup had entered their property and stolen their truck.

The white pickup was located in a field near Francis, Sask. about one kilometre away from the abandoned farmer’s truck.

Traverse and Pagee have been charged with manslaughter, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breach of undertaking for leaving the province of Manitoba.

The RCMP said a fraudulent Gofundme page has been created in the name of Constable Patton under the name of Sam Joseph and asks that no one donates to the page. Gofundme has been advised.
