‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ star ‘gutted’ after CBS cancels show
“NCIS: Hawai’i” star Vanessa Lachey is “gutted” that CBS has decided to cancel the drama series after three seasons.
Part of the venerable NCIS universe, the spinoff was axed by the network as it finalizes its primetime schedule for the coming fall TV season.
The move caught Lachey, who played Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant on the series, off guard.
“Gutted, confused, blindsided,” Lachey, 43, wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Grateful, confident, beloved fans!”
“Processing this news and still being present with my family. I Love You all!” she continued, adding, “Mahalo Nui Loa,” which translates to “Thank you very much.”
Lachey later returned to the platform to share a sweet photo with her nine-year-old daughter Brooklyn.
“Trying to explain the news to my daughter … and she makes me Mickey ears so I can ‘smile,’” Lachey wrote over the photo. “This decision was bigger than a TV show ...”
The actress’ co-stars also reacted to the news, with Tori Anderson, who played FBI agent Kate Whistler, saying she was “having a really hard time processing” the show’s cancellation.
“Thank you to our incredible crew who made every single day feel like I was living a dream. I want to say thank you to all the fans. My heart breaks for you as well,” she wrote in a post on X. “This is a huge loss for representation,” Anderson added, concluding with, “Love you all so much.”
Castmate Noah Mills, who played Jesse Boone, Tennant’s second in command, was celebrating his birthday on Friday when news broke that “NCIS: Hawai’i” was chopped. “It was soooo much damn fun while it lasted!,” he wrote on X.
“I will miss so many and so much about making this show. Incredibly grateful for the memories and to the AMAZING people on the great island of Oahu Hawaii, I cannot thank you enough for allowing us to visit, live, play, work and grow in such a special place,” he added, ending his message by signing off with his character name, “Boone man out.”
Co-creator/executive producer Christopher Silber recalled the early years of the show, writing: “Four years ago, @Jannash100 @mattbosack and I started something very special. We joined with an incredible cast, amazing writers and crew … and gathered in Hawai’i to make a show. But ended up creating an ohana. I’m so grateful to you all.”
Showrunner and co-creator Matt Bosack shared Silber’s announcement with his own message to fans, saying he was “proud of the stories we were able to tell.
“NCIS: Hawaii was a dream. And while it’s ended, I am forever grateful to my partners, @csilb and @Jannash100, our amazing cast, led by @Vanessalachey, the entire crew, and this wonderful island I call home …” he wrote.
