Man charged with sexual violence against youth gets bail
A Torbay man charged with a dozen sexual violence offences against teenagers has been released on bail.
Provincial Court Judge Harold Porter granted 26-year-old Daniel Richard bail Tuesday, May 7, after a hearing, with conditions to reside at a specific address with family members, have no contact with the complainants, abide by a curfew and stay off all social media platforms.
Richard is scheduled to make his next court appearance June 12.
Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit arrested Richard on Friday, May 3, after receiving information April 30 about an incident of sexual violence against youth that allegedly took place the previous night at a local hotel.
Richard is charged with three counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching in relation to that incident, as well as another of each of those charges for events alleged to have occurred between April 1 and April 28.
The charges relate to three female youth complainants, whose identities are protected by a publication ban.
Police are asking anyone with information to assist the investigation to contact them at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222TIPS.
